Re: Photo Number 1
I can name the Pub as The Colliers Arms, I think the street is Lee Street, and a guess at the car it could be a Morris Oxford.

Re: Photo Number 1
Hi, I am almost sure it is Elephant Street, around the Birtwistle Street area of town.
What a smashing new section this could prove to be!

Re: Photo Number 1
Looks like Willows Lane area. Reminds me of a street that often appeared in "Oranges are not the Only Fruit".

Re: Photo Number 1
I am now sure it is the 'Welcome Inn', 7 Elephant Street and this in fact was where George Formby's wife (Beryl) grew up. Her parents moved from Alliance Street. Baxenden to this pub.

Re: Photo Number 1
I was wrong with the name of the pub, I remember there were two Lion houses, The Welcome was on Elephant Street and the Colliers which was on Birtwistle Street, I should have known because we lived in Chapel Street round the corner. well done Atarah on the info about George Formby's wife, quite interesting.

Re: Photo Number 1
just found the Welcome Inn listed on a map
I always thought Beryl was brought up in Accy myself, but not according to this site http://www.btinternet.com/~dajaca/bingham.htm
Younger people might be interested to know Elephant St was so called because a circus elephant had died in the close by in 1845.

Re: Photo Number 1
The question wasn't about Beryl Formby, Mick, it was about the picture!!!!
Already new about the elephant, local knowledge.
