Re: 1st pint, 1st local.
Dont remember the Albion or the Volunteers as being a Lion pub , thought the Commercial a bit higher up on the same side was the only Lion pub ..... but stand to be corrected

Re: 1st pint, 1st local.
I was thinking the Load of Mischief was a Thwaites pub, it just seemed a bit odd two pubs opposite each other being the same Brewery thats why I asked
As Cashy says the Castle was definatly a Lion pub , not to sure about the 'Old England at Home " for some reason I don't remember any green signage (Pubs used be coloured coded in them days ) ......... there has to be a story somewhere about how that place got it's name , methinks its got to be something related to the either the Crimea or the Boer war .....probably should be a new thread for Katex, Retlaw and Atarah to get their teeth into

No , it was at the bottom of Whalley Old Road in Little Harwood , originally the old Star cinema , opposite the War memorial , nearest pubs were the Beech Tree and the Seven Trees , a short walk from the Cobb Wall WMC
