Re: 1st real holiday outside Lancashire.
The first holiday I can remember well was in Looe in Cornwall when I was about five -the old man at the guest house we stayed in used to give me and my sister toffee bon-bons out of a big jar if we were good and ate all our tea and let us play out in the back garden where there was a fish pond which my younger sister fell into.
First holiday abroad was to Greece when I was seven -there used to be a photo of me sitting on a broken column on the Acropolis with my front teeth missing
I remember it was the first time I'd ever seen oranges on trees and the heat in Athens was so intense that the air looked sort of wavy and shimmery -heat haze I think it's called. We went on a boat trip for a day to some islands and I had never seen anywhere so lovely, with all the little white houses and the turquoise blue sea. When we were returning in the evening dad sat out on the deck reading a paper, everyone else came in as it got quite rough - a huge wave came over and swamped him, everyone saw and thought it was hilarious, he was soaked through!
