Anyone for a mystery tour..........???

Quite often of a Sunday.....mum and dad would walk us downtown....and in a side street near the bus station..whose name I cant remember....were coaches with a board in front of them extolling the virtues of a day trip to Blackpool,Morecambe or Southport....you hopped on,paid your money and went when the driver thought he had enough people to cover the costs..but the ones I liked the best were the coaches marked with MYSTERY TOUR....how exciting not to know where you were going and guess all along the way...invariably it was a run in the Ribble Valley stopping at the obligatory pub along the way....and lasted for 3 or 4 hrs there and back....I loved every minute of it......

Coaches used to run from Melbourne Street. I loved the mystery tours too. We once went to Hellifield on one.

Re: Anyone for a mystery tour..........???

We used to go out on a sunday dad driving mum sat in front seat and my dad used to just follow the road wherever we landed thats where we stayed - ended up in a farmyard once - dad apologised to the farmer saying i followed the wife's instructions! mum would have killed him if she could have driven home! That was my mystery tour!
