We had carbolic soap cut from a lump at the co-op....that was red....they also sold Olive soap. It did not have the pungent aroma of carbolic

My Auntie Phyllis(when she was 'courting') used these and I once pinched one....it was not very nice.

Re: Back in the day.

Then there was the penny brylcream dispenser at the baths or if you were posh there was the tin of brilliantine, smelt nice but was really just lard with perfume in it.
You had Pears soap Rowlf? You must have been rich?

Love carbolic ... still use it ... I can get it at health food stores and at the Bulk Barn. Nothing better than soaping up with carbolic in a hot shower. The bathroom smells great, and so do my pits.

Re: Back in the day.

One of my brothers had a mild skin condition and my mum used to buy Wrights Coal tar soap just for him.....if I was mad at him I used to take the bar out to the coal hole and roll it in the coal dust.....it really did have coal in it then.
I got my hide tanned, but it was worth it.

Remember the days before ads when we had "interludes" instead:

And see the people walking around in public places with fags in their gobs How did we ever survive without government regs to save us from our disgusting and dangerous habits
