Re: Can you name the songs you danced too?
Yep, you're right, Al, although the original version was by Ruby & the Romantics in 1964. However, it was the Marvelettes' 1967 cover that got 'em up on the floor at Accy Disco.

Re: Can you name the songs you danced too?
never danced when i was young, was usually too drunk when arriving at dance halls, though now will have a bop if we go to rocknroll nights anywhere, the first record i can remember dancing to was High Class Lady- the Lennerockers thought it suited paris well,so i got up and had a do.

Re: Can you name the songs you danced too?
I would say it is was more like line dancing at Accy disco... skinheads lined up.. and not so much dancing.. more like just stretchin yer braces and showing off yer buffed up doc martins .. and the girls weren't much better!

Re: Can you name the songs you danced too?
At bout 13/14 we used to go to the disco at St. Annes church in Accy, anyone remember - it was in the cellar under the church - boogying away to tunes like Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel by Tavares, also the Arcadian ballroom on Knowlmere Street off Whalley Road but I think my first 'grown up' place to have a boogie was probably the Apollo above the Astronaut on Union Street.

Went to St Annes church around 77/78, banging my head pogoing on the pipes on the ceiling!. I was a long standing Arcadian Ballroom bod and got in free because I brought my records down. That would be about 74/75 and also a long termer at the New Era 78/80, dancing to all the futurist classics. Anyone remember Mick Cronshaw turning up dressed as Nash the Slash!

Re: Can you name the songs you danced too?
We went to the Empress ballroom in Burnley,Saturday was posh and you danced to the big band music,
But on Mondays and Thursdays we had a wonderful time dancing to all the pop records,,Elvis,s too many to mention.Neil Sedacca,s Oh Carol Everly Brothers,Wake up little Susie , Cliff,s Move it, Sam Cooke,s Chain Gang ,,and thousands more.....oh memories ...
Us girls used to go to work with rollers in our hair and an head scarf on,,,we were always in trouble, but it was worth it,,

Re: Can you name the songs you danced too?
My parents used to love to Waltz and I guess Jitter-Bug. Itwas so odd to see cause my dad was quite stern and it just didn't seem to fit the guy we grew up with.

Re: Can you name the songs you danced too?
It depends what sort of dance. Aged about 14 I would have been jiving to Bill Hayley's "Rock Aroung The Clock" or Elvis's "Hound Dog" and smooching to The Platters, "Only You" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" etc.
A bit older and I discovered Glenn Miller and learned ballroom dancing (utility - not the "my mother sewed 50 million sequins on my dress" sort). At our wedding reception my husband and I started the dancing with a slow quickstep to "Moonlight Serenade" - so romantic! - then went completely overboard with "In The Mood". A cine film of us jiving, me in my lacy wedding dress and him in his RAF uniform, is really something to see.

Seeing as i aint had a wedding i'll tell you what my cousins daughter danced to with her dad - Butterfly Kisses by Lauren Waterworth. Everyone was in tears at the end of it.
