Eric, I can remember catching a corporation bus from the Forts Arms Clayton right to Peel Park to watch Stanley in the old third division north and then getting the bus out of Manor St back. The bus was standing room only and the conductor never managed to collect all the fares, as long as you could get as near to the front upstairs.

Eli Whalley & Company, Manufacturers of Donkey Stones -
Donkey stones took their name from the image of a donkey used by the largest 19th century manufacturer. On the other hand, Eli Whalley used a lion as his trademark and the inspiration for this came from childhood visits to Belle Vue Zoo at Gorton, Manchester.
