It is a pink block of compressed tooth cleaner in a round tin. You rub your wet toothbrush on the block to load the brush. (after removing the pleated cellophane wrap shown)

We always had to take a kagoul onn school trips. We hated wearing them though. They looked horrible and had a plastic lining that made you all sweaty.

When I was thirteen we were taking my school friend Widdup water ski-ing on Windermere, in the summer holidays.

My mum phoned his rather posh mum (they lived in Wiswell, and had a study, so they were posh to us,) and told her he would probably need a 'kag'.

Not knowing what a 'kag' was, they apparently drove all the way to Skipton, to a boating shop, thinking it was some specialist equipment, only to find out a kag was a nylon anorak, that folds up to a handy size, and is pefect if it starts to pour down in the rainy Lake District.

I've got the giants causeway version of it hanging in my hallway. The only thing is it looks more like the plastic coats that were the fashion in the 80s.

I remember when the Odeon Cinema had contiuous pictures. There used to be long queues. The old fish markets and tripe stalls. Joe Morts and Knowlemere Street. Winkle pickers and teddy boy's. I could go on forever.

Re: do you remember.....?

Just thinking about shops in town I remember the blue dahlia cafe on Dutton St, Kenyons cafe on broadway, near to there I think there was something called the golden kitchen, Dellstar Travel agents on broadway next door to some kind of d i y shop, there was Boots on Blackburn road, which I can remember had kind of metal circles stick to its glass doors, EJ Rileys toy shop and Wardleworths on Little Blackburn road, Babyland top of Warner St on corner, Fowlers fabrics and a cafe which I cant remember the name of opposite town hall. Further up little blackburn road was Pendle travel agents and a fent shop with a very old man in it. There was the womble inn opposite yorkshire bank which sold chicken butties and stuff, Tiger lilies clothes shop in what is now Baileys on church st. Just above the bus station on the right hand side going up was a large ladies clothes shop but I've forgotten the name of it.

Re: do you remember.....?

Just remembered some more - Pauls for school uniforms on little blackburn road, classic cinema (which always seemed to smell of cats), Marys music opposite hope and anchor, record exchange at the top of little blackburn road, really good hot potatoes with butter on in little bags from a stall on the market, ali's stall which I think was clothes and Relayvision on the corner of broadway. I can remember the huge car park on what is now the arndale with the toilets in that space age building.
