My gran used to send me there for bread and barms before school, and to Feathers butchers in the market hall, where I still buy my meat.
We used to get freshly ground coffee at Redmans, ( now Brighthouse) and also butter patted into a block and wrapped in greaseproof paper.

Yes! we had some fun down there, and also in Broad Oak works, there was a slab of pavement halfway up that used to get really hot in the winter, we used to meet there as well.
Fond memories of really good times

Freddy and the Dreamers came to the New Era.
Leaders were I think Mary, Jack and Sheila
Loved the dancing downstairs.
Played Netball for the club, went to Austria with them, that was great

Do you remember the Pickwick pub?
It was Accy's 1970's answer to today's Wetherspoons.

Re: do you remember.....?
And yet another question, Bee.
Do you remember, if you left the Pickwick, turned right, and then walked diagonally across the carpark to come out on it's middle entrance on Union St, you came up right against the Accy Superloo? That was the thing that looked like the top half of a boiled egg, again sliced in half.
Well, I've been having an argument with a mate of mine. I say those loos were fitted out with Carrara Marble; he says Portland stone. Which one of us is right?
Please let Bee answer before anyone else jumps in.

The loos in question, for anyone too young to remember them.

Same, and like me you were probably warned to stay away from them.
Apparently always old men hanging about in there.
Running their hands on the walls.
Discussing their hardness.
Asking people if they knew what it was, and if they wanted to touch it.
