Green Shield Stamps
Just been watching Heartbeat on the TV and a part of the storyline featured Green Shield Stamps, I wonder who else remembers them, I do, when I was younger my Dad had a mate who used to buy completed books to trade them for the stuff in the catalogue. I always used to think that was a waste of time because after you had bought the stamps you had to send them off in return for the goods, it seemed to me to be far less hassle to just use the money to buy goods from the regular shops and not bother with the stamps, but I suppose it takes all sorts.

Re: Green Shield Stamps
I remember them. I seem to remember my parents having a book or two on the go, although I don't recall actually getting anything with the stamps.

Re: Green Shield Stamps
Yes, I remember them.......and I remember cutting the labels from Black and Green's tea. You collected so many labels and then you sent them up and you got a china cup and saucer. My Mum always aspired to having some lovely china cups to drink out of....alas with seven of us doing the washing up the crockery never lasted long in our house.
She did collect enough for two cups and saucers and a sugar bowl and milk jug......these were unveiled when my Auntie Nellie(not my real auntie at all) called and she was given tea out of those precious cups and saucers......and we were not allowed to touch them.
They bit the dust when one of my younger brothers knelt on the drop down front of the kitchenette....the whole thing toppled over and disgorged its contents onto the stone floor. There were some sore legs that night!

Re: Green Shield Stamps
I can remember getting them when we bought petrol from some petrol stations. I can't remember ever sending away for anything so presumably we never filled a book.

Re: Green Shield Stamps
I remember sticking them in the book and some sort of multi value stamp that you just stuck in the middle of the page and it counted as a full page.

Re: Green Shield Stamps
I remember my mum collecting them, she used to get them everytime she shopped at the Co-Op if I remember rightly. Also remember collecting the paper gollys off Robertsons jam and sending them off in exchange for little golliwog figures, I had a band and nearly a full footy team - in fact I've still got some of them

Re: Green Shield Stamps
I remember them very well. We use to get them at the Petrol Station too “Nation” we also got them at Tesco. I remember that we use to have away days to Bellevue with family friends, we’d go to the zoo first, cart racing and then to the Green Shield Store to get our goodies. I remember everyone in the family got something out of it. Last time I looked in my mother cupboard she still had about six full books and some odd stamps. Who remembers getting a gummy gob from licking the stamps.

Re: Green Shield Stamps
Sticking them in the book was my job and I took it very seriously - I always made sure my books were incredibly neat.

Re: Green Shield Stamps
I sent away for lots of things.. please don't ask me what .. can't blooming remember.
Saved No6 coupons too .. had thousands when they gave this cigarette up and just dumped them .. how stupid was that ...
Suppose the new Tesco/Boots/Sainsbury's reward scheme is just the same, but done on a plastic card now.
Like the Boots best, 'cause you can just spend your points, rather than the hassle of money off etc. Got many a freebee lipstick from this scheme..
