During a recent e-mail with "Owd Bert" he asked me to ask on the Accyweb the following:

REQUEST I---- I REMEMBER YANKS BEING AT MELBOURNE MILL ( WATER ST ) DURING THE WAR OR AT LEAST AT SOME PERIOD IF NOT THROUGHOUT THE WAR. COULD YOU ASK ON ACCY WEB IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

Can anyone help him out by giving me a reply to pass onto him please?

I don't remember any Septic Tanks being in Accrington during the last war. They would have stood out like a sore thumb, the nearest base for septics was at Wahington Hall, Chorley, which became the Fire Brigade Training Centre circa 1960.
