Nah, Wynonie ... sure I used to catch the Blackburn Bus to go to the Mecca where the bus station is now (just a few stops) .. was on yer left at the bottom of Peel Street and the fare was 6d. This was probably around 1959 > 63.

Although I don't remember any of this, thanks for the post in general because I love hearing and learning about history especially of Accy & Ossy. I've always known broadway being a pedestrian area.

Before it was pedestrianised there was a zebra crossing from roughly where Woollies and M&S now are across to the market. On Saturdays when the town used to be heaving with shoppers once the herd started off across that crossing there was little hope of the traffic getting going again! Eeee them were't days.

Used to catch the Ossie bus bottom of Peel Street too, to get off for Church Kirk, either top of Henry Street, or the one that did go to Church Kirk... this was the Accy Corporation bus of course. Opposite was the Huncoat bus (as mentioned in Willow's post). Cannot remember any setting off from Union Street, in period I mentioned.

that would be in the days of the outside market when it had the stalls with green n white striped canvas covers,which used to collect large amounts of rainwater, which cashy used to poke up with a stick n soak people passing, if you were one-

i still think it was funny.

But the Blackburn Bus Stop was UNION STREET.
