I am only quoting the facts as I know them. As far as anything that comes out of Hollywood is concerned it has no credibility with me, the Americans did not enter this war untill the Japaneese kicked their backsides and put us in debt that has just been cleared! Hollywood bunkum.

Re: Our house in the middle of our street

Got the location wrong the work was done at Blechley Park, when Turing and his fellow mathematicians had the gist of how the code woked, on a random number daily change system, each service had its own codes (army, navy, luftwaffe), a machine was developed to assist in the sorting of bollions of different combinations. This cut the 'options' and they then hand sorted the codes many women and men made up the team. Now then Steeljack let us have 'John Waynes' version.

Re: Our house in the middle of our street

When me and Tinks were growing up we were never in the house. I remember one 6 weeks holiday, we used to get up at the crack of dawn, get dressed and go out on a mission. This mission was to go down to Accy stan's training field and do a dawn raid on a den that had been made by a bunch of 14 year olds. They had a stash of magazines in there ( now use your imagination these lads were 14) and we used to nick them and burn em. After a while they started setting really dangerous traps to catch us. They would dig really deep holes and place bin liners with grass so we would fall down them. But we never did, we were to clever for them. We would then climb a tree and sit and wait to see their faces when they realized their mags had been stolen

One day they chased us all the way up whinny hill right into Huncoat lmao. OH the memories.

We never stayed in the house because it was more fun outside causing mischief and we loved it.

Cool Re: Our house in the middle of our street

Your facts after your correction are correct Ianto.W. I would just add that the engineer who actually built the computer was a GPO engineer and he begged, stole and borrowed the thousands of valves that were needed as well as buying some out of his own pocket.

The Yanks fight a good war in the movies but when it comes to the real thing – ‘nuff said!

Without wanting to appear to anti yank, as I have gained a lot of friends from over the pond on accyweb, who's friendship has been a great comfort to me in hours of darkness, as yours has, but I draw the line at the lovely Alan Turing, a truly remarkable man.
