Payment terms
Sure you will have had this before, but with the new must have 'pin' coming in thought back to the payment method in either Baileys/Moffats in Union Street, Accrington. The shop assistant put your money in this brass tube and it was transported upwards by a method of pulleys to the cashier sitting in a wooden box; a little like the judge in court. Put in your receipt and change and sent it back whizzing down to you. Thought this person very grand, and they, in turn, looked down on you with snooty arrogance.
Used to love it, can't think of anywhere else they had this, however, didn't get into other towns much in those days, so probably was.
Have we moved on? yeh, cashier would only last a week these days with all the muggers, etc., around.

Re: Payment terms
It sounds more secure than 'chip and pin'

Re: Payment terms
I haven't learnt my number so I don't think I'll be using my cards after 14th Feb! Perhaps a good thing!

Re: Payment terms
Still signing at the moment - tried to remember my number but got it wrong first time I used it. Only really use it online though so not major problem until that time when I get stuck in the petrol station and the cash machine isn't working.

Re: Payment terms
Yeh Mez .. thanks and the smell of all those wooden counters, eh ? Just up to my shoulders then.
Need a new thread re. chip and pin, listened to a discussion whereby you can apply for a sign and pin. Mainly aimed at the disabled, but the banks don't exactly give you a medical, if you know what I mean.

Re: Payment terms
Gayle,
If you can't remember your PIN, what use is the cash machine in the petrol station? Also you do know that you can change it to a more memorable number such as your birthday, wedding date, kids ages, infact anything you can combine to give 4 digits that mean something to you. Perhaps even the number of votes you expect to get at your next poll

I never use my credit card to get cash out so don't need it in the cash machine - I have got a cash machine card which I do know the number for.

Re: Payment terms
Gail if you're using a CASH Machine card is that not a card that you can pay with at a checkout???? You use the same number for CHIP & PIN and cash machine!

Nope, my bank card is just a cash card - not even a debit card. My credit card is totally seperate.
