Silhouette Art
On putting a photo of my son in the gallery in silhouette, think I had the idea of what used to be a fashion of the time (late 1940's ?) Instead of the usual photo, artists created a silhoette image of your children. My brother and I were 'scissored' at the time. Wonder where they are ? Brother you watching .. have you got them ?
Did anybody else have this done? .. would be lovely to see them.

Re: Silhouette Art
It goes way back, even before you were a girl Kate.
It started way back in the early 1700's, and was still popular after the introduction of photography even in the C19th.

You might find this interesting too.
I've just uncovered the silhouette Kate had cut from years ago.

Re: Silhouette Art
Aah that is lovely Garinda, (have not taken insult at reference to my age either . can't alter that one).
Ok .. yes, realise was done for the upper classes, but was developed on an economical commercial basis so that us working classes could afford something similar.
Think they came around to yer house like they used to do with baby photos.
Can't just remember.

Have you still got them Kate?
Scan them if you have, and let's have a shufty.
I remember doing some at school.

Think my brother may have them, will try and get them .. hope other people have them too.
Yes, could be correct .. may have been done at school, but think I had some sort of hat on and never wore one for school. Oh, you mean you actually did some yerself ?

Lol, yes I remember doing some at school.
Black sugar paper, some sharp scissors, and a white pencil to add a few whispy, arty farty, details.

Re: Silhouette Art
Ah well, brother just rang me and seems they have been lost forever .. shame... loved those.
We agreed that they may have been done on Fleetwood prom. just north of the pier .. guess 'artists' like this aren't there anymore.
Seen lots abroad who do chalk drawings of you, etc., and presume St. Ives have these street portrait artists. What with all this rain though you could look very sad within a few minutes ...

Re: Silhouette Art
Had mine done by a performance artist in Salzburg earlier this year. Got to say it doesn't look exactly like me although it doesn't look unlike me. He did it whilst dancing and it took little more than two minutes - it might not have been perfect but was definitely impressive.
