Re: The Return of the Accy Bus

No, the bus we used to see in Salisbury was more modern than the one in your picture, Wyn. Also it was in the 90s which was before that one was restored.

Thanks anyway for looking out the picture.

Re: The Return of the Accy Bus

The first Corporation buses arrived in 1928 and to everyone's surprise they did not have the same livery as the Corporation's trams (bright red & pale cream with orange-brown roofs) Initially the buses were dark blue with red stripes ( as the East Lancs Regt) with black window frames. There is no mention of the colours in the Transport Dept minutes, so the theories cannot be confirmed, but it is widely believed by transport buffs such as the late Robert Rush.

and passing going towards Burnley was the double decker Accy bus looking great and going like the clappers.

Did it ever cross your mind that the the "boring blue n red" was chosen to commemorate the Accrington Pals?

Yes...that would be right...I had just come out of the Post Office and was crossing over the road when the bus sailed into Avenue Parade(well, no of course it didn't sail).
