I think Brian Inglis was the most memorable presenter.
Talking about TV , does anyone remember 'This is your life'? with Eamon Andrews
I can also remember the very first commercial I saw on my uncles's new TV
...The Esso sign means happy motoring........
I really am going back a long way!

I remember Mr Andrews and his big red book, the first advert on commercial TV was for Strand Cigarettes, the tag line was your never alone with a Strand, showed a bloke standing under a lamp post at night with his mack collar up and trilby hat pulled over his eyes, think today he'd have been pulled by cops on Stop and Search

Re: What did you watch when you was a nipper?

Anyone recall 'In Town Tonight' : a weekly magazine programme chaired by McDonald Hobley. A bit like a latter day Jonathon Ross, but without the foul mouth.

I remember it Stumped, think it used to be on around 6pm on a Saturday night, always opened with a shot of Alexandra Place with the TV antenna on top with air waves radiating from it, can remember the music though

Just found this on Wiki

Just found this on Wiki

In Town Tonight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

or maybe this is better

In Town Tonight
Intro was followed by the voice of a newspaper seller calling out "In town tonight," as traffic circled the statue of Eros in central London. Remember Hobley interviewing Robert Mitchum when he was passing through during the filming of Ryan's Daughter which was set in Ireland. The author J.B. Priestley was on the same program. 'In Town Tonight' and 'War in the Air' were very popular programs at the time. Recall seeing film footage of Belson and Austwich which scared the pooh out of me as a gullible teenager.

It was - Sept 22 (or 21) 1955.

Strand advert came in 1959 & the brand was discontinued in the early 60s.
