Certainly was cashy, and they used local kids too, a few year ago they had a reunion on, think it was Granada Reports, getting all the kids together again, all in their 40 and 50s

Re: What did you watch when you was a nipper?

I'll do that jaysay--
just a mention on nostalgia -
we used to have a 'pop' wagon that came round every friday - I think it was 'stantons' - sold dandelion and burdoch as well as sarsperilla in stone jars with a stopper on the side (my dad used the empties as hot water bottles in winter!) -accy based?
on thursdays the knife sharpener (on bike)
wednesday's the rag and bone man.
what happened to those wooden sticks of licquorice that you had to chew like mad until you finished up with a wad of pulp??
yarns of wool?? mother had us holding arms outstretched with yarn between thumb and fingers so she could roll into a ball!! most went on darning our socks!!
Bonfire nights and 'wooding'-- aah.

'The Adventures of PC49' Created for Radio by Alan Stranks, with Brian Reece in the starring role and Joyce Shelton playing his girlfriend, Joan Carr. PC49 was a beat constable serving with Q Division of the Metropolitan Police. Series began in 1947 and lasted until 1953. 112 episodes were made, but only two are known to have survived.

I was given the PC49 Album as a present for my 10th birthday way back in 1951. Wish I'd kept it.

Visit 'Jimmy Clitheroe's' cafe on Clitheroe Market for a good brew and a preponderance of old theatre posters and memorabelia of their mischievous little hero.

Was it a series about a US Cavalry officer being branded a coward, but eventually proving himself innocent? I believe Chuck Connors had the starring role.

There was another western series starring Steve McQueen as 'The Rifleman'.

Then Hugh O'Brien in the long running 'Wyatt Earp' series.

I just loved the TV Westerns. Far superior to the sci-fi rubbish that kids are into today. But then again, that's just my opinion. It's probably more in tune with what's prevalent at the time.

Another great series. Gill Favor and Rowdy Yates became household names.

You remember 'The Big Valley' with Barbara Stanwick as the mother to three feuding sons?
