Do you remember the Christmas Special ale?
Was it called OLD TOM or OLD BEN?
One was LION & one was THWAITES.
Strong enough to blow your cap off!

Old Dan was Thwaites in a nip sized bottle but they also did a special at Christmas.
Think they also did a Big Ben.

It was like a barley wine if I remember right beni, never really bothered with bottles, sometimes a pint glass wasn't big enough for me

Re: Who Remembers.......
I remember the black stains on the houses and the women on bended knees rubbing the front door step with a soft sand stone which they had exchanged rags for from the rag and bone man, a sight to see on a Saturday morning all the women in their slippers with hairnets on or headscarfs rubbing away.

Re: Who Remembers.......
Donkey stones yes, available at LIDL not, so is there a modern day method of sprucing up the front step, i suppose the demise of a lot of mills has helped keep them a bit cleaner.

Re: Who Remembers.......
I remember wearing clogs ... used to get them at the cloggers on Barnes St, left hand side going up to Barnes Sq. .... used to run down the street and make sparks with the clog irons .... had to be careful not to wear the irons out too quickly, or my mum would go ballistic .....
