Who Remembers these
Green Shield Stamps&
Back in the 60s and 70s Green Shield Stamps were all the rage up and down GB did you collect them and to what extent, Myself I used to have books and books of the things, can remember tramping round garages to find who was giving quadruple stamps and when you were tanking up with a 40 gallon Bedford TK that was a hell of a lot of stamps

Re: Who Remembers these
My stars you are going back some. I also remember cigarette tokens you could exchange for goods once you had collected thousands of them.

Re: Who Remembers these
My dad used to work at the greyhound garage and every year we used to go to Blackpool to spend them, we bought loads of stuff, and this was just with the stamps customers told him to keep as they couldn't be botherd with them.

Re: Who Remembers these
Bought my first guitar with 14 books..got it from the green shield shop in Preston, kinda like an Argos type place if I recall correctly. Bloke near us used to buy fag coupons at 2s per 100, just enough for a pack of players No.10 (sweepings up) and a box of matches.

Re: Who Remembers these
cups and saucers from Black and Green's leaf tea...Plastic tulips from Daz......strings of (fake)pearls from Acdo.
If it wasn't for the cups and saucers from the tea coupons we'd have been drinking out of jam jars...or chipped cups from J.W Bridges at the corner of Church St...now that IS going back a long way

Re: Who Remembers these
A friend of mine was a radio officer in the Merchant navy, he saved embassy coupons.
One time while on a night out with friends in Brazil, he was sat at a bar counting his coupons when a lady of the night came over to him and asked what country that money comes from, it's from the bank of embassy he replied, he was counting quite a stack of vouchers valued at 10, she looked thoughtful (perhaps trying to work out the exchange rate), then said, I will be yours for the night if you pay me forty embassys.
He claims to have declined the offer, stating that their pimps protect the girls with guns over there, he didn't fancy his chances if she had discovered what they really were.
