Another head scratcher
For the 3rd time this month I've gone out for a couple of hours and left this computer switched on, then when I get home & try to get on Accy Web, Face Book, Blackburn 247 or the Great War Forum, I cannot access the sites until I have signed in and entered my pass words again. It doesn't happen at any other time. Nobody else has access to it or can use it because I switch to a blank channel and turn the monitor off.

When you log in, do you have the "remember me" box ticked?

No, there is one site I only visit once a month, and I've never been logged of from that, sometimes I only visit the Great War Forum every other day, and never been logged off by them. This problem has happened 3 times in the past 19 days.

Re: Another head scratcher
What browser & operating system are you using?
What do you mean by switch to a blank channel?

DOS6, WINXP, WIN 7. 3 computers, one keyboard, one monitor, 4 channel switch box that allows me to switch from one computer to the another when I want, but thats got nowt to do with it, sometimes one computer is not switch on for a couple of days but the log in & pass words remain intact.
It has hapened before but only when a site has upgraded or been off line, couple of times, thats happened with Ancestry, and several times with Blackburn 247, but he's always fiddling with it.

Re: Another head scratcher
There have been changes to my Email account since I was hacked last week, I have to log in every day now, there is no box to keep me logged in, which to be honest is fine by me.

Re: Another head scratcher
I see, KVM switch and you switch to a number with no PC attached so blank screen on monitor, as you say, nowt to do with it.
Neil & Mick have asked the next questions I was going to ask so here`s a few more.
Is it the WIN 7 computer?
Which browser are you using?
Do you leave a browser window open when you leave the PC?
Is a System Restore out of the question?

Not that I know of, but if it did that I would have to log on to every site every time I went there.

No its the XP IEplore, no I dont leave the browser open I always close it when not in use. I don't use the WIN 7 much but it never loses its log in passwords. Never tried System Restore just retyped in name & password

Re: Another head scratcher
Have u checked power options? Is your computer going into hibernation?
You only have to enter your passwords once press save on 7. Reinstall you have to do them all again but otherwise you shouldn't have to. #1 rule to remember is NEVER use IE most experienced people will tell you it sucks. I prefer Google chrome. I login with my email on first install on a new PC. It remembers most user names from other computers and you only have to enter your password once. There is also a plugin for Firefox that does the same.
Windows 8 saves stuff to the cloud I think. Might be an option over 7 but you might want to bang your head against the wall for a while

I don't allow updates, they never really tell you what they are for, I use malwarebytes to protect the computer
