Re: Blue screen error - help.

The savage range is better than the Intel integrated chips but lower than say Nvidia.

You can play some older games but not the later ones. It also depends on what the developers chose to use when doing the graphics side of it. 2nd Life isn't that 'fancy' but they obviously chose to use a feature that is only supported by the latest Gfx chipsets.

Unfortunately thats teh thing with PCs, you end up wanting more than you can use.

Re: Blue screen error - help.

Answered my question in long winded techy way of ..nope lol!

Just looked around & theres nowt for savage pro basic cards as i say now its savage 4 geoforce or not even savage 3d, so can simply say there is no games to play other than board ones as long as they are 2d, choice very limited especially when its not a pre historic machine at all

Re: Blue screen error - help.

If you was thinking of upgrading your graphics card remember DX10 is out at the moment and new games will require a DX10 card soon.

This should also make DX9 cards a bit cheaper so could be worth waiting a bit.

I love online gaming its the only way to play.

IMO Laptops arnt really for gaming unless you spend £2000+

Re: Blue screen error - help.

Mel, 3D games have been out for many years, I can guarantee yours will run some games liek Unreal and Forsaken(These being two old but superb ones), driving games like Motorhead ran back in the days of Voodoo IIs so would fly on yours. These are just a couple of examples.

What I have tried to say is that Gfx chips are having more and more features built into then (bump shading/texture rendering etc) and Direct X 9 (and 10) offer programmers an API to use these directly. If they do then any card that doesn't support these features no matter how 'powerful' will have the same problem you have. Its not necessarily a lack of ooomph, more a lack of one or two tiny features being built in.

So if you avoid games that 'need' DX9 then you should be fine DX8 will support your Gfx chip just fine as will any older DX versions.

PS, XP brought DX9 in whether you wanted it or not. Previously teh game would have just reported that your version of DX was not supported, now they let your machine fall over in a big heap. and they call it progress..........
