Re: DVD or CD use

Vista - enough said,

check they are recognised during the POST screen( usually hidden now with fancy logo its when you firts power on the PC. you usually have to press a key to see it.)

Are the relevant drive letters showing in explorer or not?

Do the disks spin up?

If it has a headphone socket on the drive does it play an audio cd?

Re: DVD or CD use

Hmmm, Its Vitsa and I swore I wouldn't help with stuff related to it as its so crap.

try removing it in device manager, reboot, see if it finds it again. You might need to remove it in DM< shut down, physically disconnect the sata cable, reboot, check it isn't showing, shut down, re-connect and boot again.

Just a quick sanity check, have you installed/changed anything just before it broke?

Lastly try using system restore to roll back to a date you know it worked.

Sorry but beyond that I'm not prepared to go. Vista is not ready for public use IMHO, far too many bugs/hardware issues for general consumption.
