Firefox update, Oh, Dear!

I had a slight problem with my Firefox browser yesterday, Mozilla did an update and afterwards I found that all the sites in my bookmarks had disappeared.

Fortunately recovery as I discovered after a google isn't too difficult.

So in case any of you suffer anything similar below is an explanation that just might help:-

  • Start Firefox
  • Go to Bookmarks.
  • Scroll down to Bookmark Manager and left click.
  • Across the top of the page left click file.
  • Left click import.
  • This will give you a choice import from explorer or file, click on file.
  • I would say this is the hardest part, you now need to find your way to, C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Windows Log on Name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\9m0emy8a.default\ bookmarkbackups
  • There will (hopefully), be a list of backups date stamped, click on one of the recent ones from a date before your mishap and hopefully all should now be well.
I hope if you've had a problem this helps.

Thanks Less. I didn't have a problem with the recent update but I did lose everything once and back then I had no idea how to get it back again.

Just a slight addition because I forgot to mention I'm using Windows XP,

So those of you using Vista should follow this path to the bookmarkbackups file:-

Windows Vista
C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\
