Right i have finally got my brother into computers, he has never had one before and knows nothing about them .
but as we are doing the family tree i have told him to get one so we are off for a look round on thursday
so any places to look and what laptop is good value he has £900 to spend.
all help welcome
by the way he wants to buy new.

My Dad bought this a few weeks ago TOSHIBA A100-02L Laptops - Cheap TOSHIBA Laptops.. Buy the TOSHIBA A100-02L laptop at PC World.

It was on offer at £399 over the bank holiday. It looks like a decent machine. I would think he could get a good laptop for a lot less than £900. He might need a printer as well as other bits.

I suppose it depends what he will be doing with it.

Only when he did not bother to check if the web cam he bought was compatible with Vista. He ended up getting another one that was. It appears to work ok for him. I wacked a wireless router on and the networking was fine. Shared the printer on his XP PC and that works ok. He has connected it to his mates wireless in Tenerife and that worked fine as well.
