Re: Mouse trouble

I think my kids used to be heavy handed when I had a mouse with a ball and the balls were always getting pushed in somehow so they didn't work - hence the desire to go optical which I do find much more manoeuverable (sp?) under normal circumstances.

Can I ask a very dumb question? I'm going to anyway....Is an optical mouse the same thing as a wireless mouse or are they just related by marriage

Re: Mouse trouble

No, wireless is as it says no wires.
Optical does not have a ball. It uses a light and sensor under the mouse that detects that the mouse is being moved and in which direction.

Re: Mouse trouble

It sounds like you have a wireless optical mouse.

Re: Mouse trouble

I've got one of those and mine started doing that. A mate of mine said are you using a mouse mat and i said yes he said is it a picture one and i said yes and he said chuck your mouse mat and use a one with no picture on it or just use the desk. The sensors dont like having different patterns to bounce off. Tried that and it worked for about 5 mins and started again. Failing that i swapped it over from the one with the 8 pin holes in and stuck it in my usb ports.

Cool Re: Mouse trouble

It sounds like the optical gubbins in your mouse is on the verge of going belly up or if it is not a wireless mouse it could be break in the lead at the mouse end or the other end.

On the other hand if it is a USB mouse with a PS2 adapter it could be bad contacts somewhere.

Try your wayward rodent on someone else’s computer. If it still misbehaves then there is only one thing for it – a new mouse.

My post “A Mouse Without A Tail” might interest you.
