MSN Messenger Help

My MSN Messenger has disappeared! When I switch on my computer it normally comes up, but now all i'm getting is this message:

MsnMsgr.exe Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\SensApi.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

You can't even go into the Start Menu and open it through there it just doesn't even attempt to load up. This message also comes up when i'm trying to open a game, although the game does play fine once you've pressed ok. Also at the same time, my Internet Explorer died aswell. You could only go on websites that were on my Favourites, the Google Toolbar disappeared and you couldn't use the address bar. I don't know if these are related.

I'm now using Firefox, and its working fine, although I have no idea how to use Firefox! lol.

Should I just try and download messenger again?

TIA

Re: MSN Messenger Help

I think I would probably delete it through Add/Remove Programs
Then download it again

Re: MSN Messenger Help

Its OK removing programs that have been downloaded, but not good practice to download again, before doing a registry defrag, you'd be surprised at how much is left behind after a removal.

After removing, just use explorer to look at the original directory, I bet you find its still there and not fully empty, as well as all the bits of spyware and other junk in the registry. Some programs are on a 30 day trial try removing them, and then download again, it will tell you your free trial is over, how does it know, because its in the registry.

Walter.

Re: MSN Messenger Help

It seems you have a virus. YOu need to ensure your AV software is fully updated and run it. If it doesn't find it then you might need to try another one. There are a number of free ones that you can work your way through. Or you can follow teh instructions on that post. editing the registry isn't for the faint of heart as you can make a real mess of your PC. However if you follow the instructions to the letter I see no barrier to doing it properly.

You could in the meantime try using GAIM or Trillion which are other clients that allow you to use MSN. You do need to sort the initial problem though as you have no idea if you have a keylogger sending all your passwords home or not.

Re: MSN Messenger Help

Hi Lolly, I know it doesnt help much with your problem but until you can sort it out and to stop you getting msn withdrawel symptoms go to a webpage called ebuddy.com, you can access msn from there....its good having teenagers that are in the know lol
