no sound

ive just bought a new computer and evey time i try and play music it comes up with a fault windows media cant play the file because ther is a problem with your sound device and when i go into information it says error oxc00d11ba does antbody know what it is .does it mean i havent got a sound card or isnt compatible with windows media ive been thriugh all the usual channels control panel and sounds etc just says no audio device...cheers

Make sure teh soundcard is properly setup in device manager with no exclamation marks.

Then try using windows itself to make sounds. ( Sound themes, test )

Then try downloading teh latest version of Media Player or even better an alternative sound player (Winamp or similar).

done the sounds test no joy downloaded latest media no joy looked in task manager what should it say for sound card ive searched for it and task manager cant find it

I said device manager NOT Task manager.


Start - control Panel - System, Hardware, Device Manager

just did that and it scan it says nothing just flicks back onto device manager

i meant it says scanning plug and play compliant hardware and flicks back onto device manager where abouts should the sound card be im going to have a look .

Its always a bit of a clue when device manager says it has no audio devices!
