Re: norton

I won't let anybody near my PC with Norton or AOL both made a previous PC run like a slug and it was a complete nightmare to get rid of. I use the free AVG

Re: norton

I just upgraded my sister-in-law's PC by getting rid of Norton. Put AVG on it instead, and it's running twice as fast now...

Re: norton

So you weren't sure if it was a dodgy copy? How? either you know its legit( and have a license sticker) or you don't?

And as soon as you tried to validate it you got battered with Viruses...

I don't think even Microsoft would stoop that low!

Still, it must be fun having to worry about all this crap.......

Re: norton

I was using the wife's computer and found that it was running Norton in the taskbar and I presume that she hadn't put it there as I had already set up a clutch of defensive systems to keep her computer clean (including the above-mentioned AVG). Seems weird that Norton suddenly seems to be invading people's computers as I know for a fact it wasn't part of the initial build of that install and no disks have been run in it for a couple of months.

Norton or symatec has been an intergral part of widoze for some years, and it takes some getting rid of.

Re: norton

Since when did Windows come with Norton built in?

It might come installed with a new PC but it is not part of Windows XP

Microsoft would not do that. If you do not have a legit copy it does affect the updates you can download - many of those are security fixes. Maybe that is what you have experianced.
