Outlook Express

My O E has developed a problem, maybe you guys can help me with it

Using O E 6

When I open OE or if its on, click on Send/Recieve, it waits a while and the comes up with a log-in box with my email add and my password in ****** - if I click on OK it just keeps reappearing, on & on & on

If I clear the info and retype it, it still does the same - eventually after typing & reentering many times it finally opens and I usually get a load of emails from much earlier on in the day

OE doesn't seem to display emails until I go through all this rigmarole which means it could be hours after someone has sent an email and they're expecting a quicker response

There is noone else using my email, no other accounts are on it, so I can't understand why it wants my log in details like this - it never used to until about 6 weeks ago


Any ideas guys (or gals)

If you go to the website of your internet service provider, there will be access to your mail there, so you can get it without using Outlook Express.
When you have done that you may find that Outlook Express works OK because you might have 'stuck' mail jamming your Outlook Express and by taking it via the ISP websiite it will be 'unstuck'
I am no technical expert and only know this because it once happened to me

for ultimate techies you can do it by telnetting into teh pop3 posrt of the ISP

I got this message from using Outlook Express so I went to the Orange website and got mail there.
I thought 'stuck mail again' - but NO - I still can't get mail via Oulook Express.
Any ideas why please?

server 'localhost' doesn't look right. Have you tried some email scanning software? some of them act as a proxy for your email server

I have Spamhilator installed - should I uninstall it?
PS suddendly started working again - must have been a gremlin

spamhilator was probably not responding, what happens is spamhilator retrieves you email, scans it then your email client (OE) 'collects' it from spamhilator. hence the server being localhost(i.e. your own PC)
