if the computer is passworded and you put this into another windows pc you might have problems recovering files if you keep files in "my documents" a good rule is NEVER store files on system partitions

It wasn't pass worded! I've done it before - you take out a hard drive from a computer that's Motherboard is bust and you link it into another hard drive as a slave to get the data. You used to see PC's dumped in the street, these days you don't see them anymore. PC's are changing so fast these days that one about 6 years old may not be compatible with new machines. The first PC I got was so noisy - the lap top I have now is virtually silent. It's changing so fast.

Well mine wouldnt take it if its an ide drive but lots of computers will. My motherboard doesnt have IDE onboard. There is always sata>ide adapters. I use one in my xbox1 so I can install IDE hd's up to 2TB

Well if you buy a new computer generally you don't open it up and start playing around with it unless you want to lose your warranty!

I build my own PC. Parts are still under warranty though. If you can prove you haven't damaged them with ESD

This computer I have asked questions about I've never opened it up. But others which I have messed about with have never blown through ESD even though I didn't bother to do that little trick to discharge it!

I've also unpluged hard drivers and other cables while it's been on and nothing bad has happened.

You were talking warranty. I don't know any pc that has factory seal on the case
