Unfortunately it could have blown through, motherboard, processor, ram, H.D. Hope you have plenty of spare bits to try, good luck with it.

Re: pc wont boot up
I have a belkin surge protector.........I bought it a lot of years ago after I lost a PC to a 'brown out'....at that time I hadn't a clue about what a 'brown out' was........education comes at a cost. I lost the computer, but gained the knowledge that such events were lethal and when I got a new computer, I bought a surge protector too.
They were dearer then, but a lot less than the cost of a computer.

Re: pc wont boot up
OK I was gonna start a new thread but as this one covers the issue I'll post to it.
My other computer is a PC and last night I turned it on and I heard the first bleep as usual and the monitor showed the usual icons. But then at the next bleep - that bleep just got stuck and sounded like a ringing bell and the screen went black and just that ringing sound!
The Monitor light goes to blue which is normal and does that when the machine is booted up anyway. But the screen is black.
Now if I press the CD Rom reset button the ringing sounds stops and it starts to re-boot but after the first graphics again it goes back to the repeated bleep that sounds like a bell! So it's obviously stuck for some reason?
Anybody got any ideas? Could it be the CD Rom is malfunctioned? I never use that much anyway.
Any suggestions, I was on the verge of getting rid of it but there are some photos on it and documents that I would like to get off before scrapping it.

Whats the comptuter/board? bios?
HP comes up in search. One short, one long usually means memory problem.

Screen stays black? sounds more like display. Usually one long and two short, neither your suggestion nor mine by description sounds like a bell.
