PLEASE help....again

I have another virus-type thing and it won't go away not matter what I try. It keeps on re-directing my homepage to res://nymxq.dll/index.html#96676, a popup keeps on coming up with the slogan "only the best" and something claiming to be "Windows XP Office Proffesional" installer keeps on coming up trying to get me to install something obviously bogus. I have run the following programs that have proven to be unsucessful:

Hijack This
Ad-Aware 6.0
AVG 6.0
Spybot: Search and Destroy
CWS
Symantec Security Check finds things but you have to pay to get the software to remove it.

Any advice????

Are there any similarity in the sites that you have been going to?
Or things that you are downloading??
You seem to be getting a lot of viruses.

Re: PLEASE help....again

Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling Inter Explorer. Sounds simple and it prob. wont work but you never know.....I'm assuming that you have reset the default homepage in Internet options?!

Re: PLEASE help....again

I have WinPatrol so it pops up whenever there is a homepage change...and it happens alot.
The installer thing pops up whenever i click on a link or start up windows explorer, its very annoying.
In answer to wingy's questions, theres no similarity in the sites that i know of - i dont go on porn sites if thats what you mean. Also, i tend not to download things so i doubt it will be that.

Re: PLEASE help....again

No, Mick, I rarely download anything.

The popups have gone now and so has the re-directing homepage but the installer isnt going. Its trying to get me to install Microsoft Office XP Proffesional which I have never had any intention of installing. The desktop wallpaper is now completely white and wont let me change it.

Cool Re: PLEASE help....again

Sounds like you need a good clean up, not found any clean up programs i like, prefer to do it myself. i would start it limiting start up programs from running in the startup menu and the registry. If you like i can send you detailed instructions how to do this safely. There are some good web sites also which you can read up on before trying anything, its always good to learn....

Re: PLEASE help....again

Sounds like your PCs been riddled by one of those so called browser hijack schemes that nasty people out there are sending out.
Makers of various antispyware tools try to keep track but some fall through the cracks, the problem is that this trojan horse software scatters many different bombs across ones hard drive. These bombs get triggered by changes the hacker makes to the system registry and other core files. These multiple bugs on your computer create those multiple instances of the windows internet explorer software problems. Perhaps the ultimate tool to attack these bombs is Hijackthis, a system that requires serious study but that lets a user scan the complete hard drive and find the booby traps. I hesitate to recommend this because it presents a user with a long list of items that may not be booby traps.
If you go to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=227 this may help or use the resources offered and contact computersteve.

Re: PLEASE help....again

I have HiJack this, I've had it for a while and it doesnt seem to have done anything. Are BackUp files supposed to appear once I've deleted something using HiJack this?

Have a go with spybot 1.3, click mode then advanced. click tools and check your system startup programs, (untick all the ones you dont know). good luck
Its a good start for speeding up your PC.

Have to agree with ian. Linux is getting closer to being a 'real' competitor with windows. I've just installed suse pro 9.1 on my new laptop and it has improved no end since the last linux box i had (non web server, that is)
