Problem with monitor screen

I have a 22" LG monitor, not that old but (naturally) out of guarantee.
Recently the top quarter of the screen started flickering, almost unnoticeable at the left hand side but going paler as you cross to the right hand side. At first pressing briefly on the top left hand corner of the screen got rid of it for a time but now it only works if you keep pressure on that corner. It doesn't flicker now, just stays light.
Is it scrap or can anything be done? I suspect not, presumably some connection is failing.
If scrap I'd appreciate everyones advise on a reasonably priced replacement.
Thanks,
Gordon.

Re: Problem with monitor screen

Is it the old "TV" style CRT ? or LCD ?

If the latter it sounds like it could of been picked up at the top and the LCD display my have slightly cracked and be leaking... if its CRT then could be graphics card related....

Also, sounds a bit odd but check for anythin interfering, cables etc.... sometimes the magnatism from these can have an affect...

These are the first things that spring to mind anyhoo...

Re: Problem with monitor screen

If none of the above you need a new one, I may have a couple of 19inch LCD ones if they are any use... although to be honest they are cheap enough these days and if your used to 22 then just ebay a new one...

Re: Problem with monitor screen

Thanks, Bob and thanks for the offer. It's LCD and I never pick it up and haven't moved the cables for months. So it may be scrap.
However! As pressing in the top LH corner cleared it but I can't sit with my finger up there all night I decided to try something. I made a clamp out of a picture hanger, clipped it on, put two rubber washers under it to press on the screen and it works!
Well, I'm a tight old git and times are bad.
At least it won't drive me mad while I sort out a new one.

How old is it and where did you buy it from?
Some have more than 1 year warranty with them.

I can't remember when or where I bought it, Neil but I can't find the receipt anyway. It could well be more than two years ago but I'm disappointed that a good brand doesn't last a long while.Perhaps I've just been unlucky.

Re: Problem with monitor screen

I've been similarly unlucky, having to replace one which was 2yrs old. I had thrown my old ne away only a fortnight previouslly. It was 8yrs old when I replaced it in a refurb campaign
