Problem with Spooler
When i try to print i keep getting this message: The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine. Have restarted the machine several times over the last few days, but that doesn't help. Have googled the problem, but i am VERY thick when it comes to anything techno and can't understand. So wondering if anyone can help me on how to restart the spooler, but it needs to be in terms that a thicko like me can understand. Thanks.

Have you got a disc for the printer, try re-installing the printer from the disc.

Re: Problem with Spooler
Unplug the printer from the computer
uninstall the printer software and drivers
do a search for anything to do with the printer to make sure everything has been removed.
switch the computer off and on again
reinstall the printer software and follow the instructions to connect the printer.

Re: Problem with Spooler
which version of windows are you running.
The print spooler is a "Service" that runs within windows and is not something the printer drivers supply.
on XP go control panel - Administer Computer - Services
scroll down and you will find Print Spooler
Make sure its set to Automatic startup. you can click start to do it manually this time. Try printing now and it should be fine.
A print spooler if you are interested is a buffer between the program you are printing from and the printer itself. its so you can send numerous docs to be printed and the operating system just sends them to the printer itself as fast as the prionter can handle them.

Thanks for all the replies. It's windows 7 that we are running. I know that you give me the solution for XP, so tried looking for that just in case it's the same, but can't find it. So anymore advice would be gratefully appreaciated.

Re: Problem with Spooler
From Google... which is similar to one suggested method I think...
Method 1:
Run the Printer Troubleshooter.
Open the Printer troubleshooter....
here
Open the Printer troubleshooter
Method 2:
If the printer troubleshooter does not resolve the issue, start the print spooler service manually and check if this fixes the problem.
a) Click Start.
b) Type services.msc in the start search box and press enter.
c) Right click on print spooler and click on properties.
d) Check if the startup type is automatic. If it is not then change it to automatic.
e) Check if the service status is stopped.
f) If yes then click on the start button.
g) Try to add a printer and print a test page.
