Yes, bit of a nightmare day, but all ok now.

Mainly thanks to Accyman running me all over, and kindly putting all the settings to Idiot Mode for me on the replacement.

I must admit that i always have a cuppa when I'm on the computer -it's one of my moments of "relax" for the day...Will have to be careful, one laptop down (almost certainly dead) and only one to go.

Thanks for this -just checked my son's -it's an Aspire 5745G -doesn't seem to be on the recall list thank goodness -it's only 8 months old - mine was 4 yrs old and has been well used, hope they manage to mend it though!

Daughter has an Acer Aspire that has already had a new drive as she used to sit on a cushion on her lap! It's working well enough but lesson learnt!

Unfortunately it was too late for mine -all files will be recuperated and put on a USB Key for me to collect tomorrow. ACER is offering me 100 euros against the purchase of a new model....I shall miss my first laptop...

Here a decent one cost 45 euros -bought it yesterday, a good investment I hope -better than losing a laptop. This one has a USB connection direct to the computer. No external plug.

Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...

Hmmm,

drawing extra power through a laptop to run a fan to keep it cool..... sounds a bit counter productive to me.
