thanks for that chav but it still didn't work and then I saw this underneath the windows media player on the Lancashire Evening Telegraph site
. Requires Microsoft Windows Media Player installed for PC or Mac. Download the latest version free from here . after I download the latest version of windows media player everything is fine.... I hope this comes in handy in the furture.... thanks for all your help

Its streaming links that seems to cause the issue. I guess its just usual Microsoft incompatibilities
