Re: virus problem

I don't get the whole firewall thing, I use the built in Windows one and have never had ANY problems whatsoever. I have used a couple of other proggies in the past, but they just give me untold hassle by blocking other programs from accessing the web

Re: virus problem

The windows firewall is commonly regardewd as rubbish. It was only a one way firewall for a start (not sure if they changed this in teh lastest incarnation) so anything that did get in could call home with no problems whatsoever.

A good firewall is only as good as its configuration. If you don't spend a bit of time and effort in setting it up correctly it won't/can't do its job properly

I think this changes in vista

I once installed Windows and connected to the internet to get updates, no firewall and av, my C drive was littered with about 10 .exe's after around 30seconds

Ah how I love linux
