Wireless Routers

Hi all just a quick note to any one who is thinking of going wireless. I have been looking in to this and have found its not very cheap but also to make sure you have a modem built in to the router or it wont work if you just buy a router because you'll have to have the modem connected to the computer!!

Re: Wireless Routers

Not very cheap? I reckon I could set it up for just over £50. If you were prepared to get 11b stuff as opposed to 11g then maybe even less(b is 11Mbps, g is 54Mbps)

Yes it is important to get one with a modem in they are normally described as an ADSL router.

I personally like Netgear stuff (DG 824M for 11b, DG 834 for 11g) but have set up numerous types (Belkin, MSI, Dlink) as well.

If anyone wants advice on any PC equipment they are thinking of getting I'm always happy to help.

Re: Wireless Routers

I was very impressed with my old SMC router. Had a Dlink and have now changed it for a safecom. Plenty of options for port forwarding etc and good for the money. It even has a built in VPN server if I ever get round to learning how to use it
Oh yes you can connect a usb printer as well which can then be used by all your PC's. Some of them can take more than one printer by using a USB hub.

Re: Wireless Routers

Just a quick update, my router was playing up yesterday so I went to replace it, £50 all in including a wifi adaptor for the laptop. Plenty of other places doing them for around that ebuyer for example) but this was from (cough spit) PC World.
