Thanks for all your replies. Rang Virgin and they advised to get a wireless re-router but i am so ignorant were computer technology is concerned.

Go wireless.
I have a BT Homehub and can connect a mates laptop 3 houses away. Plus I can connect My pc anyware in the house. Have not had one problem with it yet.
