Business Email Help
I have been asked to look into the companies Emails.
We have 3 people with Email Accounts, managed by Mdeamon IIRC.
I have no Prior knowledge on how this works, but have been asked to put a template paragraph, which will be on all outgoing Emails. Bit like the ones regardsing Virus's and if you arent the correct reciepient ect.
can anyone shed and light on this. As I dont have a clue wher to start.

Re: Business Email Help
in your mail tool there should be a footer config. Add it to that. (Chapter 28 of the MDeamon docs)
Or, on the email clients themselves, you add it as a default signature and make it a part of the company Internet policy that it must be added to all external emails(you do have a Co Internet Policy!!!!!! )

Sorry to sound Dumb but this is all new to me.
Does each Email Account have to be changed on the PC it uses or is it all done via Mdeamon (which is only on the main PC).
Co Internet Policy, whats that then, we may but I havnt heard of it, this is just being passed to me now to sort.

Re: Business Email Help
Oh dear, without wanting to sound rude but if you don't have a clue about this then how are you going to deal with spam/DOS attacks/etc. It is never a good idea to put "him with a clue about computers" in charge of a Company IT systems and policies.
I'll help with the basics, if you want detailed help you really should tell your boss to pay someone who does know what they are doing to sort it out and maintain it properly.
Your email sig is configured in two places, you can either set it on all clients or set a global on in MD. I would recommend the second for any email that goes over teh Internet and leave it off for internal ones. You should allow uses to configure their own sigs on each client with their own contact details in.
Company Internet policies should be detailed and deal with all possible issues that can arise be them Employee misuse, legal aspects, and anything else that is required for regulatory reasons(privacy etc)
I'll not even start on Backup policies/Disaster recovery/hardware and software maintainence

I wouldnt say I know nothing about computers, just not the finer working of a Email system.
But im a quick learner.
Its is only a very small part of the business, not many communications are done via Email, just I know we need the signature on the bottom of all outgoing mail.
Sounds like your option 2 would be just what I need. Where is the option on Mdeamon to imput the info, its version 8 IIRC. and I believe we do get spam on 1 or 2 email accounts, any tips on making sure its set right to stop these also.
All the important stuff at work is backed up automatical, (Back up edge or summat) over night, disaster recovery and all that is sorted, we have support for our main server and all the important stuff, just not our own usage things.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Business Email Help
Each company that has any form of access or publishes anything on the internet should have an 'Internet Policy'. This will cover the company and employees as it will describe in detail anything that the company deems to be 'inappropriate', illegal or anything else. That way everyone knows what they can and cannot do. e.g. is booking a holiday allowed? what about IM use in co hours? downloading music? you need to make it clear what can and cannot be done. It will also cover the company with regards to ensuring all employees responsibility to complying with any legal requirements e.g. email footers with regulatory info in them.
