Re: Faulty pc

Mines been switching itself off recently for no reason too but my hard drive is nearly full that's what I've been putting it down to.

Earlier on all the links in my favourites stopped working then I got an error page on accyweb, had to re-boot the full lot

Re: Faulty pc

You have all just proved how unreliable PC's really are

It is usually software problems that people have, but flashy's sounds like a hardware fault. Have you tried what Chav said yet about watching the CPU temp in the BIOS?

When it shuts down what does it do? Does it just instantly switch off?

Re: Faulty pc

I would say that generally teh hardware is actually quite reliable, the OS that you all seem to like to run seems to be a much greater problem.

I get your point entwisi...but for most people the first PC they saw/bought would have had windows..I mean almost brought up on windows and not inclined to start experimenting with any other OS.

Re: Faulty pc

well Flashy... chav and entwisi told you what you should do:

go into bios settings and look under where it says cpu temp
leave it running for a few mins and keep an eye on teh temperature while you are still in the bios screen ( do not boot windows)
if your starting to hit near 40%c and above then its most likely your cpu/processor not been cooled down enough and a simple cpu fan exchange may be all u need
40 degrees C is cool even for an athlon, modern CPUs run up to 85 degrees
it could be a crack on teh motherboard, have you fitted anything new recently? Memory/gfx card etc?

simple eh!
