File conversion

A friend of mine is having problems he has a CCTV setup and on the unit there is a port for a USB flashdrive so he can load the video images from any date onto and transfer them to a cd.
this he can do fine but when he puts it on the pc the video is in a silly file format .VVF what i am after is a program that will play that format or a program that will convert it to AVI any help would be appreciated

Has he tried VLC? It reads most video formats.
