Google OS - good news

BBC NEWS | Technology | Google to launch operating system

http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/g...unced-2009078/

Mmmm, now I like the idea of Google releasing this....

why? because its effectively just Google chrome browser running on Linux with apps running inside the browser. (a la thin client machines we used 20 years ago )

For me though the weight of Google pushing the Linux kernel in both this and Android and therefore the Linux hardware model means more manufacturers will be keen to supply Linux based drivers by default rather than the 'geeks' having to write them themselves. This should help in removing those last niggles of the odd bit of hardware not working properly ( Although its often glossed over that Vista doesn't support a huge number of peripherals anymore, PDAs, printers, scanners, even some wifi cards have been known to struggle. )

So would you be happy to migrate to Google OS?

I might be happy. Let's see what it's like. The browser itself is very very good at the moment (shame there's not a mac version!)
