new laptop.

hi, can anyone help,bought new laptop today, wireless fujitsu siemens,if i just want to use it on its own(i have a desktop pc with broadband) i don,t need a router with it do i? hopeless when it comes to technical matters, could someone give me some advise. thanks. marg.

If you want internet access there are two ways to do it. Either a wireless card in the PC and create an ad-hoc connection or put a router in and connect both via the router. The second is the easiest/most reliable/secure way and doesn't need to have the main PC on if you want Internet Access.

If you do'nt want internet or to share any files or printers to the laptop then no, you don't need a router or anything else.
