Of course, It's Windows!

Just attempting to repair a legal copy of Windows XP onto a Computer, done it plenty of times and occasionally it runs straight through.

Not today though, I keep getting a message that the software I am loading hasn't passed windows approval thingy, So If software on windows own disk isn't approved what hope do other software houses have?

Is it any wonder people don't believe that little box when it tells them their software is not approved.

That smiley is most appropriate, I think it amusing as well, although a little frustrating when trying to repair windows, yes I know, why am I trying to fix it? I should go straight to re-install after a full format!

I would have put you down as a DOS man

If you need some spare 8" floppies I think I can still lay my hands on some.

Here is an 8 inch floppy with a 3.5" for those of you not as old as Less (erm and me )

Back in the late sixties, I was working for an Electronics company that constructed printed circuit boards for ICL, each board was about 6"x3" and would manage 1 byte of storage.

When I started in IT the group I started with were split in to various teams. Some of them had to work on the System 25 which I beleive was an ICL system. Luckily for me I got put on the Unix team.

Wasn't ICL originally part of the Singer company ?

Re: Of course, It's Windows!

When Michelin closed in Burnley in 2001 we still have a couple of machines that were programmed with a reel of punched paper. You had to use a pencil to run the tape over on one machine to help keep in central while it read the tape. Happy days

I can't remember the computers name now but the machines job was to make sure the wagon tyres were balanced. I expect there are still some left in the world running on paper tape at other Michelin factories. I think Ballymena In Northern Ireland had some and they are still open.

Re: Of course, It's Windows!

I am absolutely fed up, I spent hour upon hour on that P.C. loading Windows, inserting drivers, UPDATING Drivers, when I'd finished It ran for about 15 minutes after which the Blue Screen of Death came on followed by this message:-

WINDOWS IS OPERATING NORMALLY THEREFORE WE WILL HAVE TO SHUT DOWN!

Because of this, I seem to have gone to a fatal error and XP is just sitting there sulking at me.

I really wanted it too as well. I tired a few distros and none would work. Except the boot from CD ones. I will have to put XP back on it, at least that works.
