Re: Off Line Browser

you can use ANY browser offline,

You have a copy of your website somewhere on your hard disk like c:\website

do file open click Browse, navigate to your start page (index.html or whatever you have called yours), click OK and it should all work.

One thing you may have done is use fully qualified paths for images(http://somedomain.com/images/blah.jpg) etc. These won't work and is one of the major reasons that you should only ever use relative paths within your site("images/blah.jpg").

Re: Off Line Browser

you should use images/blah.jpg or ../images/blah.jpg(if you need to navigate up a level

if you use /images it means from root of teh filesystem so would fail as they won't be there. //images would be like specifying a network root so would be even worse

Re: Off Line Browser

Magpie,

If you want to be able to go to other sites, you can do it but you would need to mirror their site on your hard disk and then set up a local web server and use the hosts files to point at your local machine so that it is served from there. To do what you want(if going to multiple sites is what you want) you need to start learning about more than just HTML.

Other than that you do need a full internet connection and that means either finding a wifi hotspot or using a mobile phone over 3G, neither of which is cheap to do in the long term.

Re: Off Line Browser

thats only useful if there is a hotspot where you need it.

Here is teh list for Accrington http://btopenzone.hotspot-directory....rch=accrington

You'll notice that most of them are pubs

you can be outside then remember you don't have to go in, realistically you need to within 100m if not less to get a decent connection

Re: Off Line Browser

Magpie, perhaps if you give me DETAILED description of what you want to do, what sites are involved etc I may be able to offer another solution. At teh minute I don't really know what you want to achieve

But many thanks for all your help there...
You could sort out a nice clear blue sky for me, I need to get some pics of the area but the light is so grey:

Re: Off Line Browser

Hi... it would be a specific set of sites that I have down loaded the night before....

I managed to get some pics, but it would be great to have a clear blue sky ( makes the town look so much better)

Re: Off Line Browser

In which case we could preload them on your PC and set it up to access the site running locally
