Re: ringtones and bluetooth and mp3 stuff type question
Sadly Willow you are fighting a losing battle. Unlike other phones the Samsungs won't play Mp3's as message tones. You can only select the tones that came with your phone. This is the same for D500,D600,D900 Too.........
I know it's crap and I have the D900 and that is the worst things about these phones

Re: ringtones and bluetooth and mp3 stuff type question
I can't test this as I have a fancy Nokia but I saw this on a mobile forum perhaps someone can test it to see if it works?
"
just to clear up some confusion, you can have your own text alert tune/tone ect, go to settings-profiles-normal-edit-message alert tone-hit centre button and select special tone, hit centre button again and you can choose a tone that you have imported on to your phone. hope this helps, its a great phone but you need to play with it to find all the options , phone booklet could be of more help"

It will play MP3s as ringtones. I've got one set as a ringtone but this flippin message message won't even play as a ringtone because it isn't an MP3.
I wouldn't mind if it would even do that. I thought Mimi's friend had it on her phone as a message alert but going off what you said maybe she hasn't. I shall have to ask her because her phone is exactly like mine. If it will play them as ringtones why on earth don't they let you have them as message alerts? Grrr & Humph.
Re: ringtones and bluetooth and mp3 stuff type question
Busman, so 'some' software on that site may be considered 'adware, spyware, etc' did I miss something, SOME?????? i.e.not all, also consider this, you write software, you want it to make you some money but in this day and age people just copy it, crack it etc. so you put ads in and make it free. this would put it in adware bracket yet it is just another form of payment. As long as its up front about it I have no problem with that. We all suffer adware in other parts of our lives yet think nothing of it there. TV(except BBC of course) for example is a perfect example of adware that we put up with to save money.
People do seem to have taken Internet security from one extreme to the other. adware != bad in all cases. all it needs is a bit of common sense.
e.g. if you had taken the time to google you would have found that software all over the place not just at this site. searching for that and the term spyware yields no results apart from ironically the site I posted that also offers a spyware tool for download.
Re: ringtones and bluetooth and mp3 stuff type question
I've ended up with a peculiar thing rather than what I was trying to download and now that seems to pop up whatever I try to download even from elswhere. It's confusing me.
However, back to the original plot. My phone doesn't like the idea of MP3s as text alerts although it doesn't mind any kind of MP3 as a ringtone so now I'm wondering if this 'message' alert is not an MP3 for that very reason. Mind you, it still doesn't seem to want to use it as a message alert.

I understand what you are saying Ian but this particular site has gone way over the top when it comes to sneaking extras into your computer. I have added a couple more screen shots but if you want to find out just HOW big the problem is, go to the Site Adviser site (google it) and you can put a site in without downloading the software.
Check it out - and then tell me that this site is the norm!

Re: ringtones and bluetooth and mp3 stuff type question
Right, I just thought OK, Lets play ball, I went through the process of trying to download it. I left a window open for 10 mins and absolutely nothing even tried to download itself to my PC. I've got the exe from a redirect and it scans as virus free.
So.... as mentioned, keep common sense on your side and there is nowt to worry about.
These of course are all based on my experience and common sense, YMMV.
Re: ringtones and bluetooth and mp3 stuff type question
I'll need to have another go at trying to download what I was tryng to download and then if that funny thing comes up again I'll let you know Ian and maybe you'll have an idea what it is and what I can do about it.
