If i get a sky+ box will i have to upgrade my sky package or will it still work?

Sky+ works with any subscribed package, so you'll be ok as long as you have a paid for subscription. Sky dropped the additional £10 Sky+ fee some time ago, so you'll be ok.

If you're upgrading from a normal box you may have to upgrade your cable and dish though, as Sky+ uses dual cable (shotgun cable), as it needs two feeds for each tuner. You could use it with an old dish and cable, but you'll only be able to record the channel you're watching.

They tend to put quad (4 port) LNBs up now so if you can persuade them to run an extra cable from it you can plug a FreeSat box in as well.

When I had Sky+ installed we took multiroom but cancelled it as we didn't use it, teh extra cable was run in at teh back of teh main TV and tehn under teh floor to teh other room, all I need to do is pull it back and I can plug a FreeSat HD box inas well as Sky+

May be a bit late but if you have not made the move yet, try ringing up and tell them that you want to leave Sky (assuming your no longer in your initial 12 months contract).

The retentions dept will jump through hoops to keep you and this may well include a vastly reduced price for the sky+ box and/or free fitting.

The cheap prices that you see are for new customers, us existing custo...mugs have to pay full price

Keep your old one, you cab get some extra cable & connect tha up in the bedroom as a Freesat box, or keep it for when the sky+ fails (as they can do) and your waiting for the repair man.

How would you do that, I have sky+ and a few spare old sky boxes.

Well, if you just have Sky+ in one room (I.E. NOT Multiroom) you will have 2 spare outputs on the LNB.

So to connect up you just get some satellite cable & some plugs, connect the plugs (do a short circuit test if you can) and connect them to the unused outputs and then to the old Sky boxes in whatever room you choose.

If your old box still has a card in it (I.E. you got a new one when you went to sky)
You just ring Sky up and discuss it with them &they will turn your old card into a Freesat viewing card for free.

If your old box does not have a card in already then its only about £20 from Sky if you ring them up.

Assuming the old box still works fine you can receive all the Freesat channels that they are offering. (not including HD etc of course).
