Mantra, can you clarify what you mean.

Is it a DVD of "At teh races"? How are you playing it? what software is being used, etc. At teh minute I don't understand what you are trying to say. We need detail in order to help you fix it.

Cheers

Ian

No its not a DVD - I am not playing it its live tv. Its racing thats happening and instead of getting it on the TV or Sky you can get it on the PC via their site At the Races. I can get the picture i.e video but no sound.

Thanks

Re: Sound Problem with XP

What type of streaming media is it? Its probably a codec issue, do you know what player its using? flash/windows media player etc. Try doing view source and look for a link with something like <object-type

Not sure if this helps but I have found out that a company called Servecast do the web-streaming. I emailed them about 4 times in the past week but no reply yet. I do not think that its their problem as the sound works through my laptop, but I cant have my PC and laptop running at the same time + I want to get the sound fixed on my PC with the at the races web-stream. Hope some of this helps

Re: Sound Problem with XP

If it works on your laptop but not desktop its 99% likely its a codec issue. We need to know what type, hence my Q in teh post above

I have view the source via 'find' and there is nothing with 'object' or type on the page. I am trying to find out what the player is, I think its run via media player. I have updated windows media player but still no sounds.

Re: Sound Problem with XP

I have right click on the video screen and then click on Properties. Click on the File Tab and came up with the following below. I also followed a link on the same page which open the video (at the races) via Windows Media Player its self, but no sound????

Audio codec: Windows Media Audio 9
32 kbps, 44 kHz, mono (A/V) 1-pass CBR

Video codec: Windows Media Video V7

Re: Sound Problem with XP

What version of Media player do you have on both machines, i.e. teh one it works and teh one it doesn't?

I can't remember where but you can check what version of codec you have installed for WMV. have a dig around and see if there is a difference.

You could try installing this codec pack http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324290

Hi -

I have tryed loads of different codecs but to no avail yet. I have also tryed uninstalling the lastest windows media player 11 and installing an older version. At the moment I am not sure what the media player is on the laptop as its packed away now. I ahve also tryed watching the link here for the golf Highlights: The Masters day four
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/golf/6538023.stm
and I dont get any sound from that either. I will keep on trying the different codecs from the link above - thanks

Re: Sound Problem with XP

Still no sound

I have had a email from [email protected]

and there sent me the following instructions and I tried them all but to no avail - anybody got any other ideas????

Firstly, we would like to know if you have tried to switch to an alternative stream to determine if it improves your service by clicking on the ‘Options’ button to the right under the video and then selecting Setting1, Setting2 or Setting 3 (and different speeds).

Secondly, please update your Media player following this link in order to reset its settings (even if it's up-to-date)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b446ae53-3759-40cf-80d5-cde4bbe07999&displaylang=en

Then, please follow the below instructions to make sure your Windows Media Player is set up correctly:

Go to the tools menu of your media player, and then go to "Options". In the "performance" tab, check your connection speed. You can select it manually. Secondly, keep the "tools/Options" menu open and go the "Network" tab. Uncheck all boxes except HTTP.

In the: Tools->Options on the performance tab you can try to set your buffer time to as much as 60 seconds. What this means is that the signal will buffer into the computer’s memory for between 1-60 seconds (depending on the setting you choose) before any picture comes through.

Thirdly, could you please click on the following link to test your internet connection speed and send us the results back:

http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest

Re: Sound Problem with XP

I have been doing some more research and it seems other people have had similar problems with some audio streaming. When I right click on the video stream and then click on properties - under audio codecs it says

Windows Media Audio 9
32 kbps, 44 kHz, mono 1-pass CBR

I did a search under google for the above and here is the link

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t321440.html

there are some other discussion here too

http://forums.techguy.org/multimedia...ows-media.html

I will keep you up dated with any progress
